H.E. Eng. Essam Abdullah Khalaf

Chairman of the Board of directors of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority, Bahrain

He received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA, and his master's degree in transportation engineering from the University of Virginia, USA. He also received an executive management diploma from the University of Bahrain in 1985.

He held many positions at the Ministry of works including the head of the traffic engineering department from 1986 to 1989, head of the traffic engineering and traffic planning department from 1989 to 1992, director of the roads department from 1992 to 2002, Assistant Undersecretary for roads and sewers from 2002 to 2005, and Assistant Undersecretary for roads from 2005 to 2010. In November 2010 he was appointed Minister of works and on December 2014, he was appointed Minister of works, Municipal Affairs and urban planning until June 2022.

On March 2023, he was appointed chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Board of directors. He was awarded Shaikh Isa bin Salman Order (Badge of Honor) of the fourth degree in 2001, and Bahrain Order (Badge of Honor) – First class in February 2011.
